Who does everyone think was the greatest villain to ever appear in the show?

I think it would have to be (from the ones I've seen) Mr Trim in Sky Hunter since he seemed so nice and turned out to be REALLY evil!

I suppose Mr. Trim was a surprise villain, but unlike the others, he was one of the only ones (if the only) who sacrificed his freedom to redeem himself.

By the way - I forgot to answer the question!

I'm not sure who I'd choose really!

Although not particularly nasty villains, I used to enjoy watching Steve and Sidney's antics in 'Fair Ground!' and Barker and Deal (John Hollis who played Barker can even boast being a Bond villain - a good scoop for BBC TV!) in 'Badger Girl'.

Scariest villain has to be the Thin Space Man though - he didn't have any 'lines' as such, but the fact that his expressions and movements were used to scare (as well as you never knowing his name - he is a mere 'description') made it more effective; pure acting!

Ask anyone who remembers The Boy From Space and I'm sure most if not all will agree the Thin Space Man was the most iconic thing in that show...

John Woodnutt is a legend - somebody give him some work again!

(WARNING: Vague spoilers for practically every Look & Read story ever)

I reckon the further back you go, the harder the baddies get. Really, kick-yer-head-in hard rather than cunning and hard-to-outwit like some modern ones.

Probably the worst, for me, are the Beasleys from Joe & the Sheep Rustlers - no messing about looking tough, no empty threats, just really unpleasant bad guys. The gang in Cloud Burst had nothing but namby-pamby gas-guns, the Thin Man never used his magic space-gun on people, and Grainger from Spywatch never pulled the trigger either - but Ted Beasley actually put a shotgun pellet right in a bloke's shoulder, right there on screen. Plus they seriously beat up a farmer, albeit off-screen.

And what about how they were defeated? The Thin Man went down in some unarmed mime performance with another spaceman, Benger & Bunce ran off just cos they saw a ghost, Mr Deal in Badger Girl was overpowered by a badger puppet, Steve & Sidney couldn't escape from a ferris wheel, both Mr Carter from The King's Dragon and Mr Moon from Len & the River Mob gave up when their boats got stuck, as did Number One in Bob & Carol come to think of it. Mr Belcher in Earth Warp, like Mr Trim in Sky Hunter, had a crisis of conscience gave up his criminal ways. Pathetic! It took several capable men, at least two police officers & a massive gang of students to physically overcome the Beasleys. Now that's what I call villainy!

Ben, that's not entirely correct! The mime performance was how the spaceship crashed or landed in the first place after the fight with Peep Peeps Pa. In fact the 'baddie' here was outwitted by the kids in the fact that he was weakened due to the bright light and having difficulty breathing earth air. The captured earthlings (including Dr. Smeggley from Some Mothers Do Ave Em) and flat nose escaped from the glass pod and waited for the Thin Man to return and jump him with the help of a Kinder Surprise Ring and a Sainsbury's plastic bag, (something the A Team would be very proud of). The next scene which was ultimately cut would have revealed a lot more, when Dan removes the Thin Man's mask to reveal Cosmo, who exclaims "Oh Boyo, if it wasn't for you meddling kids, I would have gotten away with it too I would!"

Fight fight fightRight. So the Thin Man was armed, had a hostage, in a familiar environment where the light / air could be controlled, already knew he could beat off Peep-Peeps Jr & Sr just by staring them down, and anyway was a highly-trained spaceman presumably at the peak of phsyical fitness. Yet he's still able to be taken by a few bloomin' scientists!

Stick Ted Beasley in that situation, you just need a quick knee below Daddy's belt, slap to Bunting's face, knock the kids' heads together, Tom's off kneeling on the floor or something so he's no threat - fifteen seconds max and they're all back in the meteorite room & you're sat at the desk working out how to drive the spaceship. No problems whatsoever.
