Ok, Ok, my idea for a net chat went down really well I see (0 replies, thanks guys!!), but, if anyone wants to add me to their MSN list, let me know and I'll give you the address.

Following on from The Look&Read t-shirt idea, I think someone here should look into getting some dodgy Look&Read "gear" made up. Perhaps this quite brilliant site of Ben's could start making a little money by selling some Look&Read 'stuff.' How about:-

A t-shirt with Peep Peep on the front doing his hand thing?

A t-shirt with The Thin man on looking....well, evil?

Or, I'd be PROUD to wear a L&R badge, even if it just had wordy on (or better still, a little picture of the quite extraordinarily nervous ghost from the Dark Tower sessions).

Who here knows how hard it is to get a t-shirt made up 'en?! If someone was to go ahead and do it, do you think the BBC would sue over copyright?!? Or don't they give a toss about Look&Read any more?

Sorry for talking in these forums so much, I am quiet and peaceful in real life....

Getting T- Shirts printed is quite easy. I can do it at home with special software.

The issue isn't just copyright, it's getting a large enough image that is crystal clear.

As you can see, most images from any of the older stories are quite grainy. Until the BBC clean these up for future DVD release (Ha!!!) they will remain this way!

Well my attitude would really be that I don't want to annoy the BBC any more than I really need to... I'm already pirating 11 of their books, two of their websites and assorted other bits & pieces. Anything that involved sending stuff out through the post would inevitably also involve asking for money, which would set off alarm bells for any copyright lawyer casually browsing the web. I'm just kinda hoping that by making sure copyrights and ownership are rigorously emphasised, and they're presented in a serious and educational context, offering those free downloads is kinda okay (the website downloads just about almost fit in with the new copyright policy the BBC've put on their schools website).

Thin Man's right about getting decent images too, without access to the official BBC Photograph Library. What sort of off-screen quality can you get with all the pure digital DVD captures that you fellas are doing (I haven't got DVD technology here!)?

Maybe it'd be possible to set up a section with big images pre-formatted for people to print out onto their own t-shirts, or something like that, s'long as it's entirely free. I've been investigating if it's possible to sort out big images like the Dark Towers floor plan (there's an A3 copy of it in the teacher's notes) as vector graphics that could be blown up to poster size or something, but it seems quite difficult.

And Glyn, you know you can get an authentic, straight out of the King's Dragon teacher's notes, Wordy badge image from the website. Don't forget, once you've printed it out, you'll need a soft pencil, a sheet of tracing paper (we always used to use that see-through loo paper from grandad's toilet) and a piece of white card.

A few weeks back, I saw this t-shirt "kit" where you could create your own image on a shirt. When I'm next in Reading, I'll buy one and see how creating my very own "Thin man" shirt goes. Or perhaps a Boy from Space's dad one. If it looks all rubbish, I'll throw it, if it's good, I'll spread the wealth with you guys!! I'll take the best image I can find, that will have to do for the moment.

Ben, to be honest, The BBC would be criminals if they ever tried to get stuff from your site removed over copyright laws or whatever else. This site is nothing but a credit to Look&Read, a treasure trove of affectionate information and the only crime it commits is making the BBC's very own "equivilant" look rather pathetic. Also Ben, I can almost certainly get myself into the building you talk about, I still have loads of links to my Uni. Where is the address for this place? How dodgy would that be?! Much dodgier than my t-shirt idea! "The Look&Read website goes undercover to seek out highly confidential information about Wordy and co...."

Anyone have any idea who the Welsh bloke is from The Boy from Space "sessions"? And does the bloke who voices Wordy actually talk like that in real life?! (perhaps I should post these questions under a new heading!). If he does, he must have been murdered by now for that voice sure is irritating. But then, Wordy is one irritating little orange box. He gets excited at the most minor of things. Do you think someone, somewhere, still has the original Wordy puppet costume?

I sure hope the Thin man (the one who visits this site) is Ok today. He forced himself to re-live the fear yesterday and I know it was a big ordeal for him.

Back to Boy from Space again: Is the Sandpit place not over at Wokingham, then?

I'm here! I haven't totally re-lived the fear but ask me that question tomorrow and if I don't reply then you know that beady eyed bloke got me again!

You made a good point about the wordy costume! I wonder if the BBC still has all the costumes? The ones from Dark Towers perhaps? There wasn't much to the blue TBFS costumes, so I'll be very surprised if they are still sitting in a cupboard somwhere. Nor the quality blonde wig that John Woodnutt wears! He had very dark, very thinning hair when that was made (check out Doctor Who Spearhead From Space for proof which was made a year previous), I bet he thought he looked a right plonker!

I have found an amazing internet site which, for £6.99, will allow you to place an image on a t-shirt which they will then send you. So who can direct me to the best image available on the net that we DO have for Peep or Wordy or thin man etc?

Tell me and I shall get t-shirt done today....

Erm, Ben, do you have any particularly good Look&Read pics that may not be on your site. Tall thin man, Peepo etc would all be good for a shirt. Or a really good one of Wordy?? Free shirt if you can help!!

Are you looking for photos or illustrations? I haven't got any L&R photos that aren't already on the site in some format. The best one of Wordy is probably the one from out of the TES the other month that's on the Wallpapers page - that's a proper BBC photograph. Maybe somebody who's done themselves a nice DVD copy could grab a nice image & clean it up a bit?

There are a couple of illustrations in various formats in the teacher's notes & PCMs, for instance...

Those images are kewl Ben BUT I reckon a photo would look outstanding (though I am now well tempted to print those pictures out and colour them in). I reckon a photo I found earlier on a different website of Wordy (which appears super super digital quality) would be fab but it's rather small. If anyone else is reading this, let me know PLEAAZE, we need to get some Look and Read t-shirts made!! When I get it done, I'll sort you out with one as a gift Ben, just for running the best site on the net!!

Have a look at the BBC Written Archives Centre website and see if you reckon you could get in. I've no idea exactly what they do have from TBFS, or any L&R come to that, but they should in theory have all the original paperwork - scripts, memos, records & everything. It's researcher's paradise, and I'd love to have a look in there!

Those early Wordy get-ups from the 70s are probably long-gone, but I have it on very good authority (even if I haven't seen with my own eyes) that 80s-flavour Wordy resides happily in south west London, though he's in private hands rather than some BBC warehouse.

You should be able to hear the voice of Wordy most nights of the week at 2 minutes past seven on Radio 4...

Glyn, if that picture you found on another website is the one I'm thinking of - the one that used to be on the BBC website - it's just a normal screengrab that they've converted to 16-colour to make it look smoother. Which website was it, by the way?

I made a wordy shirt last year out of different coloured felt, and quite a few people have stopped me in the street. The shirt looks pretty good, if i don't mind saying so myself!

But it took 2 solid days to do/sew/stitch (especially the letters in wordys head) but all the colours are spot on. I just went to a fabric shop, bought relevent coloured pieces of felt (about 40p each) and likewise coloured cotton, and slogged it out. I have since made a 'SWEEP' (as in sooty) t-shirt for my girlfriend (after SHE made me a 'mutley' one)

peace

Le Nicholson, any chance you could put a photo on here of your Wordy shirt (with you wearing it, of course - or better still, your bird wearing it??!). I've love to see that, that's a legendary idea. I think I'm going to go ahead and order one of these t-shirts from this firm on the net, uploading them a pic of Peep Peep to get it done. I will let you know what the quality is like.

As for the Caversham archive thing, I'm gonna call up the BBC this afternoon and see if I can blag my way in for the afternoon.
