Ok, simple question:- Out of "Dark Towers" and "The Boy from Space," what would you say is the scariest moment? And does anyone know what happened to the car that the thin man made disappear? Was it ever recovered?
Also, can anyone recall why Peep Peep does that strange thing with his hands (placing them in front of his face like that, it's weird).
Also, a silly question but an interesting one nonetheless:- If The Boy from Space's dad had a fight with the Thin Man, who do you think would win? I think it would be a good ruck. I would also like to see Tom ruck with Peep Peep (I reckon Peepo would loose). Why is it that when Peep first encounter's the children, Tom gets told that Peep Peep think he's going to hit him?! Why did Peep Peep think this?! DID he think this?
Just a few questions and little bits and pieces that have been mulling through my mind this morning.
No, actually. I live in Ascot, just five minutes or so drive from Wokingham. If anyone can be a wee bit more specific about where in Wokingham it was, I'll go along and take some pics. Wokingham is a medium size town just outside Reading and I only really know the town centre itself (which, to be frank, isn't up to that much).
If anyone can provide a little more detail, I'll go along. As I said, I've booked the day off tomorrow so I'm free! Perhaps the land's all been built on now? Do you think it might be possible stand in the pit that the thin man made his original appearance over?
And I'd hate to fight with The Thin man. I have a feeling that one of the reasons that TBFS is so scary was due to budget constraints. A smallish budget meant a serious lack of special effects and silliness resulting in a stronger than usual sense of tension and reality. I remember seeing it at Infant school, and, in the back of my head, sometimes feeling certain that we were being shown a progamme that we shouldn't really be allowed to see!!
Whilst "TBFS" features child protagonists, I suppose it remains an adult tale in many ways. I remember some mornings, the teacher would let us watch some of "Inspector Gadget" which would play over on ITV beforehand (I HATED it)....How different could children's TV go from something like that to a spooky Look&Read drama?
I don't honestly recall any school friends being spooked by it although I had a fascination with the entire series. Friday's were always my favourite day in the week! As with "Dark Towers," we are provided with "real," non comic book villains who don't just have dodgy intentions but also act out-and-out weird. I don't believe the makers ever intended TBFS to ever be as creepy as what it actually turned out to be, but some strong performances and imaginative writing meant this became top draw children's drama. The same applies to "Dark Towers" (although the special effects in that are often pretty good!). It sounds a cliche, I know, but they really wouldn't make children's TV like this today.
Now, back to the debate about the fight between Peep Peep and Tom.... And does anyone have any idea who the boy from Space's mum is?

I know what you mean I was spooked out so much by dark towers and TBFS at school, I had nightmares, but most of my mates seemed un phased!!
Only a few of my friends now seem to remember it and often get it confused with words and picture saying 'oh was that the thing with magic pencil?'
I am obsessed by that haunting quality that was often evident in mid to late 70's early 80's tv. everything now is so soulless... i mean can you imagine the discussions that went on pitching L+R!!
I personally reckon TV took a nosedive with the end of the BBC radiophonic workshop, everything they churned out added a haunting quality!
Scariest moment was the shadow on stairs in TBFS!! Peep Peep's hand to face gesture was a bit poo pants too!!!
Scariest moment in Boy From Space for me was the Thin Man at the quarry he always used to scare me, and probably still does lol. Dark Towers everytime the Tall Knight comes out and it goes all dark
