Sorry about completely abandoning the website recently, and not even reading the thing for the last few weeks. There's been a few Look & Read-y things happening recently:
Shadow Play's been nominated for a BAFTA for best (schools) drama. It's up against The Illustrated Mum though, which to be honest is more likely to win isn't it.
Shadow Play is also getting broadcast, all in one go, as a special drama for Halloween on Sunday (tomorrow) afternoon. That's the first ever non-schools broadcast of a Look & Read story, in this country at least, I'm pretty sure. It looks like they'll be showing the full, original episodes in CBBC Channel "primetime" leading in to the UK Top 40 - including the CBBC-studio based teaching middles with Vic & Dog!
Shadow Play again - some TV listings say it will be shown on Class TV during this coming week, but I'm pretty sure it won't. Shadow Play was originally scheduled to be shown this week, but it was soon shifted to the end of the month to go alongside the Landmarks Victorian programmes. There's a slight possibility they might have shifted it back to this week, I suppose, to sort of cash in on the Sunday evening broadcast, but it seems unlikely.
Actually, that's all I can think of just now.
I do have some new pages for the website half-written and at least underway, so there should be a half-hearted little update soon-ish, probably.
Well now! That was a lovely surprise - an extended, 80-minute or so "movie" version of the Shadow Play drama bits, with tons and tons of extra material that's not in the schools version, in particular Emma, the girl in the modern day bit, got more than a couple of scenes, so you really did get a proper feel for Ben's modern storyline. And none of the cliff-hangers seemed to get in the way of the continuing drama at all, it was just a superb Halloween treat. I wonder if this'll ever see a DVD release as just a children's drama film from the BBC? They could stuff on all the Angellica bits & vox pops & that as extras. Maybe they could even release the story book in shops, or get on with doing a proper novelised version of the story...
But did anybody by any chance record it in stereo, so we could capture the proper snippet of theme music they played at the beginning? I could only tape it on my tatty old mono video.
