I really enjoy going back to my childhood and watching the look and read stories, yet i have got a bit frustrated with cbbc for a couple of reasons
1. some of the programmes start about 5 minutes early and you miss some of them
2. This really annoyed me I tuned in this morning (monday 27th September) to watch the first episode of geordie racer and when it started i was shocked to see Part 2 come up on the title screen, so when was chapter 1 shown? What's going on
It is confusing isn't it, and Class TV hardly go out of their way to tell you what's going on (a simple "the next episode of Look & Read can be seen at 12:10pm" sort of thing pre-recorded and reused for the whole term would be lovely, wouldn't it) and the complete lack of any sort of publicity for the CBBC Channel programmes doesn't help.
I'll put the "5 minutes early" warning back on the front page of the website next time I update the schedule at the weekend, must have forgotten to reinstate it at the start of term, but in the meantime there is a disclaimer about it hidden towards the bottom of this page.
The reason for the unreliable start times, if anybody cares, and this is only supposition on my part, is this: Class TV is scheduled as if it ran from 9am to 1pm every day, non-stop. That is, they put in enough programmes to fill up 4 whole hours, with extra sketches & adverts & stuff in between programmes to balance things out, just like any other channel. Unfortunately, Class TV doesn't run till 1pm - it runs till 12:55pm, or in practice more like 12:53pm, at which time they hand over to CBBC for a vital episode of Newsround. So Class TV needs to somehow claw back about 7 extra minutes, and they do this by dumping most of the sketches & adverts & stuff, and just running all the programmes practically one after the other. So after the first programme things might be running 1 or 2 minutes early, after the second 2 or 3 minutes early and so on.
Just to make things even more complicated, occasionally Class TV do actually have 5 or 10 minutes to spare anyway, due to the way programmes have been scheduled, so on those rare days (Monday 4th October is one coming up this term) they MAY suddenly decide to run all the programmes at the proper advertised times, just to confuse people. Or they may not.
And don't forget, Look & Read next week is actually scheduled to start 5 minutes earlier than normal, at 10:05 and 12:05, so in reality episodes will start even earlier than that. Then the week after it's back to 10:10 & 12:10, then later in November 10:05 & 12:05 again. It's wonderful isn't it!
(By the way, hi, I'm back, sorry I've been off again for a bit, still no nearer to doing a proper update to the site, but I'm still gathering all sorts of interesting new things...)
And it's all thanks to the way the corporation is paid for. Yes, pay £110 a year and have a schedule that's unreliable; bit like waiting for a bus really.
