I've finally been having a listen to the lovely old Study Series LP version of the Boy From Space - originally put out in 1972, for the pretty steep price of £1.49 plus 16p P+P.
It's just the full text of the old story book, read out slowly by Charles Collingwood, and with all the original actors reading their own lines (this was the common way of doing Look & Read record/radio readings till about the mid-80s, I believe, when a single narrator started being used instead) plus a few Radiophonic sound effects. Even the three space men are credited with reading their own lines - more on that presently...
Here, for anybody who fancies a listen, is the complete Chapter 2, involving the search for the bright light, the compass going wrong, and the first encounter with the Thin Man: MP3 file, 2.40Mb - 5 minutes long
Here's Chapter 1 to fill out the beginning - Helen, Dan, Tom and Bunting all talk in this one! MP3 file, 2.62Mb
I haven't got enough spare webspace at the minute to host the whole thing at once, so maybe once everybody who wants 'em has downloaded these two, I can replace them with Chapters 3 & 4?
Also, it could still do with quite a bit of cleaning up, the background hissy noise removing & the crackly poppy bits taken out and whatever else people do to clean up vinyl recordings. Does anybody here have the necessary skills/software to improve things?
