Shadow Play has a really nice theme tune, completely original as far as I know. The whole soundtrack of Shadow Play is great, in particular how they've got completely distinct music for the Moretons, for the Trimbys and other bits like the fair, plus (horrid!) modern dance music for the present-day scenes, it does great things for the atmosphere of the whole story.
But the problem is that they never play it isolated - there's no real opening title sequence, just the titles flashed up over the beginning of the story, and where they do play the music it's got Angellica talking over it doing her introductions. The end credits generally don't use the main theme tune, and anyway they've got vox pops on them (kids in a school talking about the story so far and what might happen next - which is actually a fantastic addition to the Look & Read formula) like all Sarah Miller's schools programmes do!
Here's 30 seconds or so of it from the end of the final episode, but still with sound effects of the wherry sailing during most of it: MP3 file, 560kb
And here's a full minute of it from the second half of episode 1 where Ben's exploring the house, finds the diary and sees his first Victorian scene - with plenty of sound effects & even a bit of dialogue over it unfortunately: MP3 file, 1.03Mb
Maybe some day there'll be a Look & Read soundtracks CD release, and we'll get to hear the whole Shadow Play theme?
