Hi folks, first post on the new forum, and a very nifty one it is too! I contributed two Legend of The Lost Keys slides to the website a while back, and I'm glad I did, because the showing they are both from (Autumn 2001) featured the last time to date LotLK was shown on British TV without an annoying green 'CBBC' logo at the top left hand corner. BBC2 changed their on screen look (for the worst, IMHO) halfway through that term, hence the two different slides (although the Through The Dragon's Eye one was shown after episode 2, presumably in error)
Anyway, I haven't got to the point of the thread yet. As the title implies, which Look and Read stories did you see in school? I'll start the ball rolling by saying mine:
Autumn 1996: Sky Hunter II
Spring 1997: Earth Warp
Summer 1997: Dark Towers (I'm surprised they showed this as late as '97: I recall the teacher fast forwarding through the 'Look and Read follows shortly' slides and the Daytime on 2 ident, meaning this was either the 1983 or 1985 showing)
Autumn 1997: Spywatch
...and that was the last I saw. The story planned to be shown in the next (Spring 1998) term was Geordie Racer, but our teacher decided that we didn't need to watch Look and Read anymore, despite all the other classes getting to see it. Typical! I would later see all of these again when the CBBC Channel very kindly reshowed them all in 2003. Well, except for the new Sky Hunter 2 linking bits!
Very early 80's (1981..i think) BOY FROM SPACE and SKY HUNTER and DARK TOWERS at around the same time. (my sister vaguely remembers BFS years earlier, so she may have seen the black and white version!)
I think our junior school had some of them on video, but i still remember watching them live (as such) replete with countdown clocks and elevator-muzak-whilst waiting.

I didn't see any of them, in fact I'd never even heard of Look & Read until 2001, I only came across it because the boy in the Zzapp & The Word Master story happened to turn up in Crossroads and I was googling to see what other TV work the boy in question had done.
Fairground (Well, the first half only since the second video didn't work. I fineally got to see what happaned this year though!)
I also remember watching some of Sky Hunter 11 after I had done it at school on BBC2.
My mum who was a teaching assistant taught Earth Warp and I wated the episodes of that with her before she took them into school.
Recently I watched Badger Girl and I have the 5 that where shown the other day on video to watch back! I still enjoy watching them as much as I did at school!
Seems so long ago that at saw any of the look and read. But from what I have a pretty clear memory of when I saw it.
Infant school:-
Year 2 (final year for those who don't know the current school grades)
Boy from Space - 1986 (I barely have any memory of this) Dark Towers - 1987 (The Tall Knight scared me stiff)
Juniors:-
Year 3 (first year)
Fairground - 1987 (Can't remember what it was about) Geordie Racer - 1988 (Bored me stupid)
Year 4 (second year)
Badger Girl - 1988 (Didn't think much of this) Through the Dragons Eye - 1989 (Love this, and I remembered the theme tune up til I found this site)
I actually recorded the entire Dark Towers episodes last Thursday 24th June on cbbc. And for the life of me I can't remember why I was so scared of the tall knight. Then again I was only 6.

hmm, the first i remember watching at school was Through The Dragons Eye, what a brilliant series.. i watched it again when they were on the CBBC channel in February, Charn still gives me shivers..lol..
others i recall are.
fair ground, boy from space, dark towers, badger girl, geordie racer and fair ground.
I would've been in year 2 (1988/9) - year 4 (1990/1) Im 21 now, and still love these programs..
The two stories I always remember are The Boy From Space and Dark Towers, now I'm guessing I would've been about 8 or 9 at the time. So this would've been 1983/1984. I do vaguely remember Fairground and Badger Girl though cannot remember what happened in them at all.
The Look and Read stories I ever seen at school were: 1. Through the Dragons Eye Rating: Brill 2. The Legend of the Lost Keys Rating: Allrght 3. Spywatch Rating: Good 4. The Boy From Space Rating: Fab!!
GEORDIE RACER - fantastic. I'm now a teacher in Leeds and showed it to my kids at the end of term. They kept on asking me to translate!! Think I put it on for my own enjoyment!!!
I saw Dark Towers, Boy from space, Badger Girl and Geordie Racer during Primary school (approx 1986-1988). It was my greatest part of school and i cant believe there is a website dedicated to Look and Read, its brilliant!!!
I saw the Spring 1985 run of 'Fair Ground!' when I was 5 and a bit in my first school.
I moved schools later that year, and saw 'Badger Girl' in it's Autumn 1986 run, followed by 'Fair Ground!' again in Spring 1987 (as they were different schools, the class year to which Look and Read was shown varied from school to school).
Moved schools again in early 1988 and saw the premier of 'Geordie Racer' in Spring 1988, and 'Badger Girl' again in Autumn 1988 (the class year to which Look and Read was shown seemed to move schools with me!).
At some point in 1988 we were also shown a recorded version of 'The Boy From Space', but they had accidentally wiped the first 5 episodes so only saw it from 1986.
At my next school, we didn't actually watch Look and Read, but during 1990/91 we used the pupil's pamphlets for both 'Cloud Burst' and 'Sky Hunter (I)' as a class reader.
I saw Dark Towers aged 7 and was quite scared but it was great. The whole class sat in silence while it was on. I also saw Fairground. Badger Girl and Gordie Racer. These were also really good. Having read this site I see that Andrew Davis was involved in Dark Towers. I now realise why it was so good. I will be watching the upcoming repeat of Dark Towers.
All together now.
Tracy's a loner, She thinks boys are daft. She thinks girls are daft And she thinks dolls are daft. .
I remember watching JOE AND THE SHEEP RUSTLERS and CLOUD BURST when i was at school. i even remember the BBC 1 schools logo with all the dots round it with music before the programme started when i was in the television room away back in 1974 my school did not have a colour television so i saw it in black and white But thanks to Ben's LOOk AND READ site i got to see them in colour on CBBC on channel 30 on freeview
I can very vividly remember Through The Dragon's Eye when I was around Year 2-3 (1990ish) - I thought it was the best program ever. Our teacher used to record it and show it to us on a Wednesday morning - I remember having to go to the doctors one morning and being most upset because I missed the next program - to the point they let me stay in class at break to catch up!
I also remember Geordie Racer - not quite as good but also enjoyable. I vaguely remember Earthwarp too - what I remember more is the game for the BBC Acorn we had in our classroom - oh how I loved that game!!!
i am so old (40!!!!!!!!!!!!) i watched the first ever showing of the boy from space in autum 1971 & the final showing in spring 72 of the story i still consider to be the best look and read ever len and the river mob.
I can't believe that there is a website dedicated to 'Look and Read'!! How fab is that?!
I watched Boy from Space (BFS), which scared the living daylights out of me for years to come. I this that was around 1985!! Peep Peep or whatever his name was, and his Uncle gave me the creeps! I was only 7 at the time! It gave me and my sister nightmares! Were we the only ones? Bless!
Dark Towers (DT) was cool! Who remembers the theme song? 'Come with me, come with me to Dark Towers, ...footsteps on the winding stairs...la la la la la la laa... Dark Towers'...!! I remember one quote from the entire show... ' B&B buy anything old'! I'n not sure what it means, but I remember it being a clue to solving some sort of puzzle! I remember learning what the word observattory meant. (not sure if that was from BFS or DT).
I think I watched Badgergirl and also Fairground. I remember my sister telling me about Gordie Racer and a a couple of other programmes which came out after I left infant school. Who remembers being at home sick, and watching the schools programmes on BBC2 and Chanel 4 and counting down with the clock on the screen?
Who remembers Magic, magic, E! Was that from another show, words and pictures?
I think we watched it for about 3 or 4 years, probably around 93-96
I remember watching Badger Girl, Geordie Racer, Through The Dragon's Eye, Earth Warp and Spywatch. We might have watched others but I don't remember them.
I still remember the theme songs for TTDE and Earth Warp (and I did even before I found this site)...a friend and I used to sing (and dance to) the TTDE song when we were in the changing rooms after swimming lessons... it was definitely the coolest of the L&R stories we watched
i watched earth warp and through the dragins eye i really would love to watch them or purchase them on video or dvd but i cant find them xx can anyone help
